The First Celebrity to appear between the Penthouse covers in this decade was the world Famous singer of Blondie, Debbie Harry in 1980. She did not feature completely nude and her classy photos actually added to her fame and further helping her towards iconic 80’s stardom.
Pia Zadora, a well known Blonde actress of the decade featured in Penthouse in 1983 continuing the theme of sexy and sexually liberated women appearing in a testosterone dipped Magazine like Penthouse. However this theme change drastically in 1984.
In September Penthouse ran a gallery of pics featuring the hottest girl in America, Vanessa Williams who had been crowned Miss America the previous year. Miss Williams claimed to have not signed a release for the photo’s taken in 1982 to be published, saying she believed the private photographs had been destroyed. Unfortunately all this was too late and Vanessa Williams, the first Afro-American Miss America had to resign before her reign was over.
Continuing the Celebrity theme nude photos of the incredibly popular model were published in September 1985 in the 20th Anniversary edition of the magazine. Again, Madonna claims to have not given permission for these photo’s taken in 1978 by Lee Friedlander to be used in the magazine but with her already racy image the photo spread didn’t negatively affect her career.
Kristen Imrie, a well-known English Glamour Model finished off the Penthouse 80’s Decade with a hot spread named as Kristen Stewart. She stared in a Documentary in 2003 called: The Curse of Page Three” explaining how she ended up as a drug and alcohol addict living on the streets but back in the late 80’s she was at the height of her career.
And so the 1980’s was the Decade of the celebrity liberated and not so liberated and all contributing to the vast fortune of publisher Bob Guccione.
